The first thing my dad ever told me in my early childhood...
Wasn’t get a job. It was to build a house. Which ties to what I do.I help aspiring homeowners design homes they love to live in.But the real reason runs much deeper than design.When I was about 7 in Ambae, I followed my dad to the plantation.
Cleaning up, feeding cattle and pig farm.
By noon, I was exhausted.And then…he said something I’d never forget:
“Son, I’ll make sure you finish school.
And the FIRST thing you must do after that…
is build your own house.”He explained why...“Your grandfather built a decent home for us back then in the late 90s. I learned from him,
And I did the same for you guys too”... block by block, a fully furnished 4-bedroom house right there in our village.Now years later, it finally clicked.It was never just about a house.
It was about inheritance, security and provision.
An identity you could pass down to your children.And that’s why I do what I do. It’s part of the values instilled in me while growing up.Now even I'm busy most of the time, I still dedicate a small portion of my time to this craft.Because designing homes isn’t just a service to me.
It’s an extension of what my dad did for me...To build something that outlives you.So when I help someone design their home,
I’m not just helping them build walls and rooms.

December 17, 2024,I was having my lunch break,When suddenly the walls began to sway...The floor rolled beneath my feet like a massive wave rocking a ship’s deck...Furniture crashed to the ground, and the lights went out.I couldn't help it. I gripped the table tightly, praying the roof wouldn’t collapse on me....One of the deadly M7.3 earthquakes in Vanuatu.Results in a few buildings collapsing in town,Loss of lives,Building damage, business shutdown,Families losing jobs and affecting the overall economic infrastructure of our land.The fascinating part?Several new buildings in Port Vila were so badly damaged they now have to be demolished.This was a wake-up call for me.Personally, I was angry. “How could a designer be that careless?”We can point fingers at the contractors.
Or blame the government.But ultimately, the responsibility rests with the engineer who signed off on the design. Period.That’s why choosing the right designer isn’t optional, it’s critical.It’s time to raise the standard.
